DIY Bow Blouse | McCall M7436

It's been a while since my last post, but trust me, I needed the break. My last DIY really took a toll on my sewing confidence, so I needed to recharge...not to mention that my life has been extremely busy away from the sewing machine.

A few weeks ago, Joanns had a 3 for $6 McCall pattern sale. Granted, I went in the store for one thing (that's what I told my husband who was waiting in the car), but HAD to take them up on the deal. Typical, right? While there, I picked up the McCall M7436 pattern. It caught my attention because it was very similar to the Simplicity D0523 that I had on my to do list but wasn't on sale.

After reading some reviews on PatternReview.com, I decided that this blouse would be my next project. The reviews that I read said that it was a pretty easy sew and their pictures did the pattern justice.

For this pattern, I used black polyester crepe that I ordered through Amazon. I chose view C with the view D bow tie. This was an easy switch, as the bodice is the same on all views. The only thing that I would have done differently would have been to cut the neckline a lot more shallow. I forgot that the reviews said that is was a very deep V neck line. In fact, it comes to the top of my stomach. Since the fabric is sheer, I was already going to wear a cami underneath, so it served a dual purpose of also keeping my goodies covered.

I paired the top with a gray pencil skirt from JC Penney; however, it definitely can be dressed down with some nice skinny jeans and some booties. It's a versatile piece that can be used as business wear, for church, or as a casual outfit.

This project was definitely a confidence builder. It came out great and only took 2 days (outside of cutting out the pattern and pieces). I used my button hole maker setting for the first time and was so proud when it came out right! It was a little frustrating when I had to hand stitch, but that was just impatience talking. It's definitely a  pattern that I will remake again in another color.
