I had a dream. No, not the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. kind of dream, but a I "while I was asleep" dream. It was during my Sunday nap. I tend not to remember these, if I have any at all. But yesterday, I remembered it vividly. I dreamt that an old friend had somehow found their way back into my life at an event. This particular person, whom I no longer have ties with, was chatting it up and giving me all the tea on their life, drama included. I quickly woke up and wondered what it was about. Not soon after, God gave me a message: "Beware of old friends coming back with new drama." I didn't know if it was a direct message for me, but I certainly took heed.
It reminded me of the story of Sodom & Gomorrah. Not the debauchery going on, but the necessity of Lot having to leave a land and not so much as look back. God reminded me that this has to be the case with some friendships and when we don't obey His instructions not to go back, we may end up like Lot's wife-- destroyed by a lack of obedience. Who has God delivered you from that you still find yourself looking back to? Who has he removed from your life that you've allowed back in, only to be introduced to greater trials and controversy? Remember Proverbs 26:11, "As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness." Going back to places and people that God has already delivered you from never bodes well. Give those people and things no room.
Make an assessment of the people in your life. Who has God distinctly told you to cut ties and connections with? Don't be lured by old friends with new tricks. Guard your heart and your circle.
