I don't know about you, but I've had my Jonah moment. It's the moment when you hear the call of God on your life, but instead of surrendering to it, you run. I know I'm not the only one. In fact, it wasn't until recently that I finally accepted God's plan for me pertaining to my career. Every time someone would speak promotion over my life, I'd politely let them know that it wasn't in MY plans and proceed with my own strategy for my career. But, like Jonah, it catches up with you. At some point, we all have to face our calling in life. We can choose to accept it the easy way, or end up in the figurative belly of a whale until we surrender.
The story of Jonah is powerful. Ultimately, it shows us that we can't run from the calling on our life. In the midst of revealing this, it also shows the dangerous impact we have on those connected to us when we do not obey God. In his attempt to flee from the Lord, Jonah put the lives of all the mariners on the ship at risk. Yet, in true fashion, God used Jonah's disobedience for their salvation.
What calling are you fleeing from? What lives are you impacting by not being in the will of God? You can't outrun Him, so willfully surrender to God and began walking in His appointed will for your life.
